Home Energy and My Carbon Footprint
How we power and heat our homes makes a big difference to how sustainable we are.
A quarter of all of Ireland's energy use is in our homes known as the residential sector .
In 2022 the average home used 17.15 MWh of energy - split into 74% direct fuel (non-electric)from for example heating oil, or gas, or coal and 26% from electricity. This produces 4.6 tCO2 per home in emissions.
As you can see, the graph is moving in the right direction, with almost a 50% decline in CO2 emissions per home since 2006.
There are things we can do, individually and collectively, to speed this emissions reduction up to create a more sustainable home. See how you compare to the rest of Ireland and get tips on reducing your emissions where needed.
