We use your county to adjust CO₂ emission factors based on regional energy source mixes North and South. It will also help with determining what the level of electricity you may get from PV installations. But most importantly, it will help us suggest where you can go to join a local decarbonisation group and help make your own changes more powerful at a community level.

Gender - are you:

On average - and we have to talk averages in any tool like this I'm afraid - your gender has an impact on things like calorie intake in your diet. This affects its carbon intensity. If you feel that you are not average for your gender, or your gender is not reflected in the data then of course you can interpret the results of the calculator accordingly. Diet is responsible for quite a portion of our carbon footprint, though, and food choices we all make are significant for sustainability.

Why is an Irish carbon footprint calculator needed?

Our calculator is based on Irish data (North and South). It is the most accurate reflection of carbon emissions arising from our behaviours.

More importantly, we run this calculator tool not just to measure your behaviour now, but to make practical feasible suggestions for how you can reduce your carbon emissions: these are focussed on local conditions.

We know that finding out about your carbon footprint and making personal changes is just the start of the journey. We work better together. Our unique Irish footprint tool will help put you in touch with other people and groups near you so that you can take part in real community level actions: none of the internationally based tools will achieve this.

Finally: This is NOT a fundraising or carbon credits marketing tool — we link to real people in volunteer groups that are making a difference in your county and throughout Ireland.
