Last year I got a bike from the cycle-to-work scheme. I decided that if I wanted to spend money in town I would cycle in and not drive.

Potential Impact:

  • If you switched a four-kilometre typical car commute with cycling a bike to work or school you could save 200kg of CO2 each year

  • If together we replaced all car trips of less than 4km with cycling trips, we could cut national emissions from passenger transport by 9%

What inspired you to do this?

I often hear business organisations complaining about cycle lanes and losing parking. I want to have cycle lanes, and eventually proper cycle parking. This will only happen if businesses see cyclists coming in and spending money.

What were the personal and or sustainability benefits?

I use my bike for more than my commute, and I spend more time and money in town compared to when I drive. Public transport is less reliable now so I am reassured that I can get home when I need to.
